Structure

bullet

Coastlands Ministry is a network of Christians linked together to "Reach the Remote."

bullet

Coastlands Ministry is Biblically structured, and Christ centred.  The links within the network are built upon relationship and shared vision.

bullet

The administrative and logistics centre, the "Hub" of the Coastlands Ministry network, is based in Bowen Queensland Australia.  The Director, Intercessors, and a core group of Volunteers work from here.

bullet

Ps David A Black is the Senior Pastor, Director, and Chairman of the Board.

bullet

Coastlands as a ministry is governed by the Word of God and a broad Council of brothers and sisters who meet regularly.

bullet

Coastlands as a non-profit business entity is incorporated and governed by a Board of Directors and submits to the laws of the land.

bullet

Coastlands communications systems are governed by International Law and the laws of the countries where we serve.

bullet

We are under authority and as such expect those who labour with us to submit to authority as well, both locally and to the local church leadership in their areas of service.

bullet

We are not a "traditional" missionary sending agency but we do "send" in the true sense of God's Word.  (See Acts 15:22-34 and 1 Corinthians 16:8-12)

bullet

We provide spiritual covering for those who request it and who meet our criteria for service.  Alternatively, for those with other established Spiritual covering, we liaison with that covering and with the church in their area of service.

bullet

Coastlands Ministry is not a controlling or directing agency.  Each mobile mission team is autonomous in their operation.  Coastlands Ministry  is not nor can be responsible for the movements of boats and vehicles.

bullet

We are not "tribal" in any sense and are both cross-denominational and trans-denominational.  We seek to build unity in the Body of Christ.

bullet

Whilst we encourage, help and promote the financial support of those involved in this work, individuals are responsible to raise their own support.

General Requirements

bullet

Have a true "calling" from the Lord to serve His church in the remote and isolated places of the world.

Many of the places we go are both difficult to get to and dangerous.  If you are not truly called and sent by God most likely you will fail.

bullet

Be "sent" from a local church or Christ-centred organization.

Without a strong support base, both practically and spiritually, it is unlikely you will be successful.

bullet

Be a person under authority.

To God and His Word, to the authorities of His church, and to the laws of the land.

bullet

Be equipped - Have the necessary talents, abilities, character, and experience to do what is required.

Mobile mission teams must have the necessary knowledge, skill, and experience to ensure a safe journey.

A good general rule regarding ministry is that if you aren't doing it at home, don't do it in the mission field.

bullet

Yachts must be well founded and properly equipped.

Vessels must meet all appropriate safety standards and be appropriately equipped.  (We will not accept those who do not have a life raft and an emergency position indicating radio beacon.) A satisfactory insurance survey may also be required.  Your safety is our primary concern. We can help.

Some Specific Requirements

bullet

Those desiring to become part of Coastlands as a mobile mission team will be required to fill out a Ministry Application form.  We will also seek references from their pastor and other Christian leaders or individuals who know them.  They will be interviewed by an appointed committee member(s).  Acceptance is then approved or disapproved by the Coastlands Council.

The hard work that has been done by others involved with Coastland Ministries can be jeopardized by unethical and ungodly behavior.

bullet

Radio Communications Equipment -  We have a modern mobile to base communication system.  This helps Mobile Missions with the day to day running with their ministry.  This includes weather information, position reporting and plotting service, communication with the home church and family, on-air fellowship with other Ministries in the Coastlands network, pastoral care and encouragement, liaison with others such as a medical doctor when needed, and if necessary coordinating rescue operations .

It is necessary for anyone involved with our organization to have the appropriate H.F. radio equipment to provide this imperative link.  Authorization for the use of our frequencies is issued by Coastlands Ministry.

bullet

The Captain of each vessel is responsible at all times for the safety of his crew and vessel  and must make his own decisions based on current weather conditions and other safety issues.

bullet

Maintenance and Safety -  We have volunteers who help with various maintenance tasks.  We strongly encourage all mobile ministries to carry appropriate safety and communication equipment.
