Code of Ethics

Those involved with Coastlands must agree with our "Statement of Faith."

Teachability - Individuals should be willing to undertake training, if necessary, for safe operations at sea, to develop and practice cross cultural understandings, and any other personal ministry development that may be required. Coastlands is able to provide information on appropriate courses or resources.

Ministries in Coastlands need to be willing  and able to work with others from different Christian traditions and from different ministry streams.

Commitment to a balanced Christian lifestyle - Individuals need to be committed to a balanced Christian lifestyle which includes: growing into Christian maturity, active and faithful church attendance, emotional stability, healthy interpersonal relationships, financial responsibility and a stable living situation.

A good Christian testimony - Acts 11:24 describes the qualities of Barnabas, the church planter sent from the  church in Jerusalem to establish the church in Antioch.  He was a "good man," speaking of his Christ like character, spiritual integrity, and reputation above reproach...without offense before God and man. He was also "full of the Holy Spirit," reflecting the importance of ministries walking in the Spirit, empowered by the Spirit, led by the Spirit and evidencing the fruit of the Spirit!  Finally, he was a man of faith, more conscious of the spiritual realities than of the material distractions, living by faith and not by sight with an unquenchable confidence in the sovereign God.

Commitment to teamwork -  Whilst each Ministry is autonomous, individuals need to recognize the need to work together and contribute to each other's work.  We must all strive for unity (without compromise) in the Body of Christ. To be successful, we must have a problem solving and cooperative attitude.

Commitment to cooperate with local and indigenous leadership -  Each ministry must be willing to cooperate and work with the national leadership in the country where they are working.

Need for confidentiality -  All radio communication needs to be treated with the utmost of confidentiality.  From time to time sensitive or private information is passed between Coastlands Base and various maritime and other ministries.  The system is like a party line and information is heard by other operators.  Those hearing  must not convey to anyone else any information unless it is a Pan-Pan or Mayday call (emergencies.)  Those listening should not interfere or enter into a sensitive conversation unless specifically requested to do so.  Coastlands only makes available information on its radio frequencies and schedules to its authorized users.   This authorization is delegated to Coastlands by the Australian Communications Authority.  Agreement to this need for confidentiality must be accepted by each Maritime Ministry.
